Catholic private school to rebrand to attract pupils
Prior Park College, a co-educational public school for boarding and day pupils in Bath, is to reposition itself as ‘Christian’ after almost 200 years as a Catholic school, The Catholic Herald has reported.
The school stated it has come to the decision followed a “lengthy re-evaluation” about “how well our college reflects the students we have today”.
Prior Park College’s headmaster Ben Horan said many parents have expressed frustrations over the “restrictive nature of being a Catholic school and the limited educational choices and outcomes that come with that”, adding that the school had become “increasingly diverse in recent years, with people from different backgrounds and sexual orientation now represented across both the student and teaching body”.
The school’s website said gay former pupils have complained about “how difficult they found their education at the college, both historically and relatively recently”.
