One in three of Team GB privately educated
33% of the Team GB squad at the Paris Olympics were educated at a private secondary school, according to research by the Good Schools Guide, Sky News has reported.
Eight years ago at the Rio Olympics the figure was 24%.
Team GB comprises 327 athletes: 155 men and 172 women. In Rio, there were 366 Team GB athletes: 202 men and 164 women.
Certain sports lend themselves to featuring a greater proportion of privately educated athletes than others, for instance, 52% of the rowing squad and 47% of the hockey squad were privately educated.
The three schools with the highest number of alumni competing for Great Britain are Plymouth College in Devon, Millfield School in Somerset and Whitgift School in South Croydon.
