Rugby School in Warwickshire, which offers boarding to pupils aged 13 to 18, is opening a sister school, Rugby School Nigeria, in September on a purpose-built campus located in Eko Atlantic City in the centre of Lagos.

The school will initially offer a sixth form programme for day students aged 16 and above, which will include a diverse range of extracurricular activities, preparing pupils for entry into universities around the world.

From September next year, the school will expand to include day and boarding pupils from age 11 to 18. The curriculum will mirror Rugby School’s, initially offering a wide range of A-level courses alongside programmes in sport, arts, leadership and enrichment.

Rugby School opened sister schools in Thailand in 2017 and Japan in 2023.

Nick Bacon, chairman of governors of Rugby School, said: “We are thrilled to bring our educational expertise to Nigeria, a country rich in culture, talent and ambition where we have enjoyed strong ties for many decades. Rugby School Nigeria will embody the values, boarding ethos and standards that have defined Rugby School for centuries while embracing the opportunities of its dynamic location in Africa.”

On its website Rugby School stated: “Rugby is grateful for the support of the Board of Eko Atlantic in bringing to life its third international sister school, solidifying our joint vision of the vibrant city of Lagos as a destination for transformative education. This collaboration is a significant step in nurturing future leaders, aligning with our commitment to creating global connections, and positioning Rugby School Nigeria in Eko Atlantic City at the forefront of educational excellence in West Africa.

“Rugby School Nigeria aims to empower its students to achieve academic and personal excellence, cultivating the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape.”
