Three charged after fraud investigation at Cardiff independent school

Three people have been charged following a fraud investigation at Cardiff Sixth Form College, Wales Online has reported.

Cardiff Sixth Form College is a private boarding school with campuses in Cardiff and Cambridge

South Wales Police first stated investigating suspected fraud at the college in 2017 after financial irregularities between 2012 and 2016 were noticed.

Yasmin Anjum Sarwar and Nadeem Sarwar have been charged with multiple theft and fraud offences totalling £5 million. Ragu Sivapalan has been charged with false accounting between 2013 and 2016.

All three will appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on 8 April.

The college was sold Dukes Education in 2017.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: ” Following an investigation by South Wales Police, with vital evidence provided by the Charity Commission for England and Wales, three people have been charged in connection with a multimillion pounds fraud and theft investigation into the former independent Cardiff Sixth Form College which happened between 2012 and 2016.”
