Haberdashers’ Monmouth School has appointed Melvyn Roffe to its next head taking over from Simon Dorman in August.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is a co-ed day and boarding school educating children aged three to 18.

Roffe is currently chief executive of the Clifton College Education Group, having previously been principal of George Watson’s College in Edinburgh for 10 years. He was formerly chair of the Boarding Schools’ Association and The Heads’ Conference.

Roffe formerly worked at Monmouth School for Boys, first as head of English and then as director of studies (academic deputy), before leaving to become headmaster of Old Swinford Hospital in Stourbridge in 2001. His career path then took him to Wymondham College in Norfolk before he headed to Scotland in 2014.

Dorman has taught at Monmouth for 15 years, first as second master and then headmaster of Monmouth School for Boys. Latterly he became head designate and then executive head of the newly formed coeducational school.
