Taxing independent sector “will not fix state schools’ issues”
The Economist magazine has concluded that the effect of Labour’s plans to impose VAT on school fees “is likely to be unevenly distributed”, adding that “the money raised will be useful at the margins but not fix the biggest issues in schools”.
In the article Julie Robinson, chief executive of the Independent Schools Council, is quoted saying that it’s rare for countries to tax school fees and that if the UK was still a member of the EU this would be prohibited.
