Brighton College to launch three new schools in Europe
Brighton College is launching three new schools in Europe: Brighton College Madrid, Brighton College Rome and Brighton College Lisbon from September 2027.
Brighton College is a co-educational, boarding and day independent school for boys and girls aged three to 18 in Brighton and Hove.
Richard Cairns, principal of the Brighton College family of schools, said: “We anticipate significant demand and excitement in Madrid, Rome and Lisbon for schools that replicate the ethos, traditions and ambitions of Brighton College, which this year was ranked highest in the country for its academic results. This is a hugely exciting venture, bringing to these European capital cities an educational philosophy that has won Brighton College numerous global awards but, more importantly, one that has demonstrated that success is most readily found where kindness underpins everything. Children who are happy are children who thrive.
“These new schools will offer the opportunity for pupils across our family of schools to benefit from cultural exchanges, educational trips, sports tours, collaborative learning experiences and so much more.”
Speaking to The Times, Cairns said: “There is undoubtedly an influx back into mainland Europe of parents who have learnt to value UK private education highly,” adding: “The ISC census shows Spanish and Italian families going home between January 2024 and 2025 and that’s even before VAT was added to fees. Everything I’m seeing and hearing is that this has accelerated [since then].”
