Brookes UK School closes

  • 29th July 2025

Brookes UK School has announced it is closing permanently.

Brookes was an independent school for children aged two to 16 in Risby, Suffolk.

In a statement the school said: “Despite the tireless efforts of the school’s leadership team, governors, and staff, the school has declared a state of insolvency and will now enter voluntary liquidation.

“The process will be managed by Hayley Watson and Andrew McTear, Licensed Insolvency Practitioners at McTear Williams & Wood Limited, who have been appointed to oversee the winding down of the school’s affairs.

“Brookes UK has been part of the independent school sector for many years, and this decision has not been taken lightly. The school has faced mounting financial pressures, including rising operational costs, reduced enrolment, unpaid fees, and the cumulative impact of wider economic challenges. After exploring every viable option to secure funding and support, the Board concluded that closure was the only responsible course of action.”

Brookes Education Group director David Rose said: “This school has always been more than just a place of learning. It has been a community of committed educators, supportive families, and talented young people. We are devastated to see it close.”
