Independent Muslim girls school to open in Cambridge
A new independent girls’ school, Cambridge Muslim Secondary School, is opening in Cambridge in September, Cambridgeshire Live has reported.
The school will teach girls aged 11 to 16 years old and is described as a “non-profit independent school based in the heart of Cambridge”, Fees will be £6,000 per annum.
The school will “focus on academic excellence, character building, community service, and leadership”, with pupils “encouraged to grow spiritually, intellectually, and personally, all while embracing the principles of Islam and British values”.
A pre-registration inspection report by Ofsted said the school will have 50 female pupils, with 12 part-time teaching staff and one full time staff member. It will initially cater for Years 7 and 8 pupils, with a maximum class size of 10 pupils.
The report said: “The school’s proposed curriculum is designed to ensure that pupils learn a broad range of subjects. It has identified the important knowledge and skills pupils need to know and remember as they move from key stage 3 to key stage 4.
“Staff appointed have appropriate levels of qualifications and subject expertise to teach their areas of the planned curriculum. The acting headteacher and the curriculum leader have significant experience in teaching and curriculum development.
“Opportunities to develop pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development have been mapped out through the curriculum. Pupils will learn about protected characteristics and be guided to develop their understanding of their own religion and the religious beliefs of others.
“The school plans to provide pupils with the opportunity to play a role in the local community. Plans such as helping support elderly residents in the community, raising funds for charities and regular visits to the local mosque are all likely to help pupils to develop an understanding of active citizenship.”
