  • 4th August 2025

Royal Russell School in Croydon. South London is building a new junior school building which will accommodate around 400 pupils and includes dedicated early years classrooms for younger pupils.

It will also include spaces which can accommodate a variety of lessons, a dedicated outdoor play area and a special entrance for younger pupils to access the site. It will also house a bespoke science lab, art and design suites, and a new junior school library. The building is due to open in September next year.

Royal Russell School educates 1,300 pupils aged three to 18 on its 110-acre campus.

Headmaster Chris Hutchinson said: “We are incredibly excited about our new state-of-the-art junior school building which will enhance the educational opportunities of our younger pupils. At Royal Russell School, we are proud to inspire a life of learning at the family school of choice and the new building will help us to continue doing just that.

The project follows a significant funding arrangement with NatWest.

Kevin Matthams, relationship director at NatWest, said: “The new junior school building at Royal Russell School will provide a fantastic space for pupils to learn and grow. We know that having the right educational environment, particularly during the early years, is essential for children’s development and we were delighted to support Royal Russell School as they move forward with their plans to enhance pupils’ education.”
