Pupils electrocuted at Somerset private school
The Health and Safety Executive is leading an investigation after three pupils at a private boarding school in Somerset were electrocuted.
Over the long May Bank Holiday weekend, three students at Millfield School ‘sustained serious injuries’ after being electrocuted by overhead electrical cables.
Emergency services, including three double-crewed ambulances, an air ambulance, a hazardous area response team, fire crews, and the Avon and Somerset Police were called to the scene and the three students were taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We were called at 19.37 on Saturday, May 3 to an incident at Millfield School in Somerset.
“We conveyed three patients by land to hospital.”
A Millfield School spokesperson said: “There is no ongoing danger to others.
“The entire Millfield Community’s thoughts and best wishes are with them all.
“We ask for everyone to respect their privacy and avoid speculation.
“We are working closely with the authorities to investigate how the accident occurred.”
Following the incident, a referral was made to the Health and Safety Executive, which will investigate the circumstances behind the incident.
