UK: Inspired Education buys My Online Schooling
Premium schools operator Inspired Education, which is backed by private equity firm Stonepeak, has acquired My Online Schooling.
Founded in 2016 by former teacher Tom Crombie and based in Edinburgh, My Online Schooling provides an interactive online education based on a British curriculum to students across 80 countries.
The acquisition represents a further extension of Inspired’s presence in the online school space after the purchase of Wey Education in May 2021.
Established in 2013 and headquartered in London, Inspired manages a group of 83 premium schools in 20 countries worldwide, with more than 70,000 students from kindergarten to year 13.
The company is backed by Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC, private equity firms TA Associates and Warburg Pincus, and the Oppenheimer and Mansour family offices.
Last May, Stonepeak invested €1 billion in the company in exchange for a minority stake. Inspired’s founder and chief executive Nadim Nsouli retained a majority holding in the business and continued to lead the company.
Nsouli said: “With the acquisition of My Online Schooling, Inspired is expanding its online offering and extending its leadership position in the online school space.”
Mark O’Donoghue, chief executive of Inspired Online Schools, added: “My Online Schooling is the second largest player in online British curriculum school after King’s InterHigh and we believe that the proposition for families can be enhanced with some of Inspired’s proprietary approaches to learning, bespoke technology platforms and continued care for the whole child.”
