Becky Pielesz returns to Chard Prep School as new head
Chard Prep School in Somerset has appointed Becky Pielesz as its new head of school, rejoining the institution where she was previously deputy headteacher and head of maths from 2018 until last year.
Pielesz, who has more than 21 years’ experience in education and leadership roles, said: “This school holds a special place in my heart, and I am deeply committed to its success. Having been part of this community previously, I understand what the school needs to thrive, and I am dedicated to fostering an environment where every child can excel and feel valued.
Pielesz has already recruited specialist subject teachers and said: “We offer a unique prep school experience. Unlike most prep schools, our pupils benefit from being taught maths, science, English, art, drama, music, PE, humanities and IT by specialist subject teachers. From year two, they move from class to class to experience their lessons in a dedicated subject classroom.”
The new head said her future plans include reintroducing her grammar school preparation programme, creating a ‘showcase year’ experience for the Year 6 pupils, and enhancing the dining experience to foster a more enjoyable social environment for pupils and staff at lunchtime, focusing on conversation, enjoyment of nutritious food and practising etiquette.
Other future plans include a residential programme, leavers’ celebrations, visiting theatre productions, and various fundraising events.
