London-based executive search business Wild Search has appointed Duncan Murphy as director of education designate to work closely with managing director Edward Wild and the wider team on leadership and board appointments for individual schools and colleges as well as groups, including heads, bursars and development directors.

Murphy has experience as an educationalist and began a teaching career at Cranleigh School and progressed through St Andrews School and Milbourne Lodge to become head of Claremont Fan Court Preparatory School. His most recent role was head and chief executive of Kingswood House School.

Murphy was chairman of the Sixteen Group for the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools and as a member of its education committee. He has combined his executive career with advisory roles (including for an education recruitment business) and continues in his role as director of education for MTM Consulting.

Murphy also sits on the board of two investor-supported UK independent schools and maintains a strong working relationship with their overseas investors.

Announcing the appointment Edward Wild told EducationInvestor: “I have worked closely with Duncan on a number of projects so felt confident we could work well together and that Wild Search’s clients would welcome and value his experience and insights. He has an excellent network and is keen to develop his knowledge of executive search. We look forward to advising both our growing number of education clients and to forging new relationships during the year ahead.”
