New head for Edge Grove
Edge Grove, an independent school for children aged three to 13 based in Aldenham Village, Watford, ha appointed new Ed Balfour at its new head teacher, taking over from interim head, Richard Stanley.
Balfour was previously Head at Beechwood Park School in Markyate, St Albans, for seven years. He began his teaching career at RGS Worcester before moving to Whitgift School in a similar role. Prior to that he was appointed head of drama at Bradfield College, Berkshire, before moving on to run a senior boarding House of 65 boys. His first headship was at Northbourne Park School in Kent.
He graduated from Cardiff University where he read English, followed by a PGCE at Cambridge where he met his wife Emma, a modern languages graduate.
Stanley has been at the helm since September last year, having retired to England after 27 years as the head of two of South Africa’s most prestigious prep schools. He will be working closely with Balfour as he transitions into his new role this month.
